Our curriculum was developed from research by the Creative Center for Childhood Research and Training, and is authorized by the State of Florida. “Beyond Center and Circle Time” for the 3–5 year olds and “Beyond Cribs and Rattles” for the infants and toddlers are play-based programs focused on creating intentional, developmentally appropriate environments for the children. Rich, well-planned and organized play opportunities offer quality early experiences to support each child’s journey toward school readiness and success later in life.
Children are given the opportunity to “do their own experimenting and their own research” (Piaget) through environments that include Emergent Literacy, Block Construction, Fluid Play, Dramatic Play, Art, Cooking, Outdoor Play, Carpentry, Gardening, and more. Children learn through their senses and by participating with their environment—a hands-on approach to learning. The teachers play a significant role in this play of children. Teachers introduce and guide the themed-play in each environment with quality children’s literature.
Beyond Centers and Circle Time has been accepted as one of the Universal Pre-Kindergarten qualified curriculums. Beyond Centers and Circle Time is supported by theorists Jean Piaget, Anna Freud, Erik Erikson, and Lev Vygotsky. This curriculum also encourages the use of a screening tool in order to gain a baseline, or perspective, of where each child is in the learning process. We use the screening instrument, “Ages and Stages”, which will allow us to help each child reach their full potential.
